Concert in Fond Memory of Alicia de Larrocha (Segment)

with segments of music by
TURINA (1882-1949) and ALBÉNIZ (1860-1909)

Music lovers all over the world have tremendously missed Alicia de Larrocha, the renowned Spanish pianist, since her death on 25th September 2009. Now that three years have passed, three local piano performers – Lee Kam Yuen, Arthur Leung and Thoman Tam who show great ardor for Madame de Larrocha, performed a number of classical and Spanish piano masterpieces which were much favored by this piano legend.

The relationship between Turina and Alicia de Larrocha can be traced back to 1929. The composer identified the 5-year-old de Larrocha as a child prodigy and invited her to demonstrate in a music class. She included many well-known pieces of Turina in her first batch of recordings after she had gained fame, in order to show respect to the master.

Albeniz’ work was what Alicia de Larrocha performed most in the 75 years of her musical career. His masterpieces Iberia (in 4 volumes) recorded by de Larrocha was regarded as one of the greatest piano recordings.
